Security Advice for Gold Jewelry, Diamonds, and Gemstones

For you to enjoy your treasures, they need to be somewhere close and accessible, but NOT in the Bedside Jewelry Box.

Although we DO advise a Jewelry Box on the Dresser and easily seen, BUT ONE CONTAINING SEVERAL PIECES OF JUNK JEWELRY. It is a well documented fact that Burglars nearly ALWAYS check the Bedroom First knowing that people hide things there.

In general terms we have discovered, through HUGE amounts of research, (Please don’t write and ask us how we know such things) that your average Crim or Thug, doesn’t know the difference between Gold or Plated items, Diamonds or Shiny pebbles of Glass.

In the dimly lit beam of a torch, a handful of Jewelry, stuffed into a pocket, stops them searching any further, and they leave without any more damage.

If it looks like gold, it must be gold… Right?

Well, NO! But this can work in OUR Favor.

So OCCASIONALLY buy that antique looking string of pearls (which we know are glass beads) from the local Op shop or Charity Church Bazaar, and salt it into your ‘attractive’ Junk items in the Jewelry Box on the Dresser.

Costume Jewelry CAN look a Million Dollars. Old Brooches in a Base metal and containing a ‘Plastic’ Cameo, can feel and seem to be worth all the trouble.

Help these poor people out. Do the right thing. Give them something to Steal, and they will leave you alone, next time.

But what about the Good Stuff?

If you do ‘Hide’ it somewhere in your home there are a couple of points we wish to discuss. Firstly: tell a trusted or close relative where they are.

Too many people hide things and then forget where they put them. Over the years it slips from memory and after they ‘Cross Over’ as John Edwards would say, they get tossed out with the rest of the rubbish never to see light of day again. Shame – Shame – Shame. Please tell someone.

Don’t hide the items in extreme temperatures.

It has seemed that over the past decade or so, some people have been hiding things in the Freezer. This is NOT recommended as Gold and Silver items may survive, but some gemstones are sure to suffer.

Opal for example contains a great amount of water in their chemical make up. Freeze opal and you will NOT have anything with color left after a very short while. Pearls too, and most of the softer ‘Organic’ gemstones like Coral or Ivory or Amber will all be damaged by this process.

The Kitchen is a good place to hide things, as is the Laundry.

We have had some clients (friends of ours) who hide things in the Children’s Toy room. As long as it can’t be found or played with by the Kids, it is safe.

If you come home one day and the Darling Little Ones are wearing your best Diamond Jewelry, chances are you didn’t hide it well enough. Under the Lego pieces, just doesn’t cut it.

Regardless of whether you have your items hidden or in a ‘Safety Deposit’ style box or wall safe etc, you should still insure your items.

We have mentioned this before, so if you’re not sure, please read the advice on ‘Selling your Jewelry’ or go direct to the Online Jewelry Appraisal Centre for more information (address shown below).

As a last resort, it is comforting to know that if your treasures are lost or stolen, you can retrieve an accurate description and detailed specifications from a safe place OUTSIDE of your Home or Work.

One of the strengths of the ‘Do-it-Yourself’ Online Jewelry Self Appraisal system, is knowing your details are kept in a secure extraweb database that only you can access 24/7 from anywhere in the world.

We would hate to have Fire, Flood or Earthquake rip apart your world in more ways than one. After the event is NO time to get a Certificate done, and at such a low fee (less than the price of a Big Mac and Coke) is a tiny price to pay to ensure your details are covered.

Any good Manufacturing Jeweler should be able to remake an EXACT copy of your treasures thanks to the detailed descriptions in the Kit. Even if your Certificate was lost or destroyed, we can ALWAYS get you another copy and bring your Engagement or Wedding Ring back to life.

Diamond Platinum Jewelry

Diamond platinum jewelry is all the rage, and has been for at least the past 10 years. Platinum jewelry lends itself extremely well to diamonds. The reason for this is because platinum is such an elegant and rare metal. It has a cool, brilliant and vibrant white color. It’s durable, and strong. These are many of the same attributes that a diamond has, so the two work together hand in hand. Much like diamonds, platinum is extremely rare. It’s not a common metal, like silver. Although silver always has been, and always will be a very popular metal to wear, it doesn’t have the retail value that platinum has. This is important especially when a shopper is thinking about buying diamond platinum jewelry, or any diamond jewelry.

When someone is looking to buy diamond jewelry or diamond jewelry in general, they are looking for a couple of things. First, they are looking for jewelry that is worthy of expressing their deepest sentiments. When someone buys a diamond platinum jewelry piece, such as a diamond ring, there is no mistaking what the ring is for. Diamond rings have always meant engagements and weddings.

Every girl dreams of the day that she will be a woman, and get diamond jewelry of her own to wear. Girls will put rings on their left ring finger, and pretend that they are wearing that priced diamond ring. So when she grows up, and gets to have a diamond ring, this is a fulfillment of a dream to her. It used to be that getting a gold diamond ring is what she would hope for.

Nowadays, diamond platinum jewelry is what symbolizes love, and life passages for the modern bride. It goes so well with everything that she wears. Some women worry about wearing different metals, such as gold with certain outfits or events, because the yellow color might clash or be too gaudy for what she’s wearing. Diamond platinum jewelry goes with everything that a woman can think of wearing, and it goes with every occasion.

Men are not left out of the enjoyment of wearing diamond jewelry either. Platinum is a very strong and masculine metal for men to wear. It accents diamonds very well. It’s white and cool, so it offers the man an aura of distinction and class. Men can wear their diamond platinum jewelry with their best suits, or with a nice pair of jeans and a nice tailored oxford, or even a modern and trendy t-shirt.

There’s no mistaking that diamond platinum jewelry is here to stay. It’s too popular, sleek, cool, and chic to lose favor amongst shopper anytime soon. Diamond jewelry pieces will always inspire awe, and appreciation. Diamonds are so prized, so it’s fitting to use a diamond as a setting with platinum jewelry. Diamonds and platinum can go together with pieces such as rings, tennis bracelets, or necklaces. It’s very popular for men in entertainment, especially singers and rappers have a diamond stud set in platinum. The two go so beautifully together, and will continue to sell extremely well.

Things You Should Know About Diamond Jewelry: Diamond Clarity

Many people buy diamonds just by the way they look. However, since we talk about a precious purchase, we advise you to learn the basics. One of the important things to know about diamonds is related to their clarity.

Diamond clarity refers to the existence or non- existence of flaws in a diamond, whether it be inside or on the surface. A perfectly clear diamond is almost rare and thus, very expensive. But most flaws that do exist in a diamond are almost not invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen by an expert grader with the help of a magnifying loupe.

Flaws are of two kinds: inclusions and blemishes. Inclusions are those flaws that can be found inside a diamond such as air bubbles, cracks, tiny spots, and non-diamond minerals inside a diamond. Blemishes refer to the flaws found on the surface of a diamond, such as pits, scratches, and pits. Diamonds incur some blemishes in the cutting and polishing processes. Because it is quite rare to find diamonds without or with very few inclusions and blemishes, they are usually more expensive than the rest.

When you buy diamonds you should know that the stones are graded. Diamond clarity grade is determined using 10x magnification, and it may range from flawless to included:

1. Fl, Flawless (no internal or external flaws)-these are extremely rare.
2. IF, Internally Flawless (no internal flaws but has slight external blemishes)-these are very rare diamonds.
3. VVS1 & VVS2 (Very, very slightly included)-these diamonds have very minute inclusions that make it difficult even for an experienced grader to detect.
4. VS1 & VS2 (Very slightly included)-these are stones with minute inclusions that can only be seen by an experienced grader under 10x magnification.
5. SI1 & SI2 (Slightly included)-these are diamonds with minute inclusions that are more easily seen under 10x magnification.
6. I1 & I2 & I3 (Included)-these are stones that have inclusions that are obvious not only to an expert grader but even to an untrained eye.

These diamond clarity categories show that most flaws in a stone can hardly be detected, even by an expert grader. Because they are just minute imperfections, they do not influence the beauty and brilliance of a diamond. In fact, not until you drop to the “I” grade that flaws become a distraction to a precious stone’s beauty. So it shouldn’t bother you too much if you’re diamond’s clarity grade is not near the top scale. Your diamond doesn’t have to perfectly flawless for it to be gorgeous as you can well see in many Diamond Jewelry accessories.

Rather, you should pay more attention to where your diamond flaws are located in relation to its cut. The reason for this is that some flaws can be easily detected when placed in particular spots. You should consult your jeweler as to which positions are undesirable.

It is a fact that the presence of inclusions and blemishes reduce the clarity grade of a diamond. However, these imperfections can also be considered as an evidence of your diamond’s identity. In every diamond certificate you can find the plot of a stone’s inclusions. Because every diamond is unique, you can make sure that you’re getting the exact diamond that you’re paying for by comparing your diamond’s exclusive clarity features with the plot indicated in the diamond certificate.

We strongly suggest that before you actually buy the diamond, to make sure th

Jewelry: Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend

Hearing the word jewelry immediately gives me the image of
Marilyn Monroe singing in her breathless voice. Whether
you’re buying an engagement ring or looking for a special
gift for your love, diamonds are a lovely choice.

The saying “Diamonds are forever,” is true, and you want
your gift to be high quality, one that your beloved will be
happy to wear day in and day out. When you are making your
choice, keep the four Cs in mind – carat, clarity, color
and cut are the factors that affect the diamond’s cost and
quality.

Carat is what most of us think of when we think of a
diamond’s quality. And, it’s probably the least understood
of the four factors. The number of carats is thought by
many people to be a measure of the diamond’s size. In
reality though, the carats tell us how much a diamond
weighs. A one carat diamond weighs .20 grams, and each
carat is divided into 100 points. So, a 50 point diamond
weighs one-half a carat.

We might think of a one-carat diamond as the very best,
but the other Cs play an important part, too. A diamond of
one-half carat might have greater value than a stone of one
carat, depending on the clarity, color or cut.

Clarity is something you might not have heard about until
you began diamond shopping. Most diamonds contain tiny
natural birthmarks, or inclusions. These birthmarks aren’t
usually visible when you’re looking at the stone — the
jeweler has to use magnification to see them. However,
inclusions can prevent light from dispersing through the
diamond, and therefore affect the diamond’s brilliance,
even to the naked eye. Less expensive stones will usually
have more and larger inclusions.

Color is the next C. You might be surprised to learn that
diamonds have color, although most of the stones range from
nearly colorless to a very light brown, and some even have
a pink or blue-green tint. Color prevents some of the light
passing through the stone, so the more color the stone has,
the less shiny it will be.

A diamond’s ability to shine and shimmer is affected by
the color. Thus, colorless diamonds are the most brilliant,
because they allow the most light to shine through the
stone. Those colorless diamonds are the most expensive
because they are both brilliant and rare.

Cut is the final C. Diamonds are cut to allow the maximum
amount of light to be reflected back. Brilliance, fire and
sparkle are what we look for in a diamond, determining how
well the diamond reflects the light and shimmers. Facets
are the diamond’s flat panes, and the grinding and
polishing of these facets is done to enhance the stone’s
brilliance.

When you are choosing jewelry, remember to consider all
four of the Cs. Together, they combine to create diamonds
that are sparklingly beautiful, truly a girl’s best friend.
